I wanted to stay away from politics on this blog because this is supposed to be a happy place where people can come and just enjoy themselves, relax, and read the thoughts of an insane teenage girl (me). However, this specific topic has amazed so many people in a positive and negative way. I couldn't just avoid it. So here is my take on it. If you didn't know which specific ones they are, they are as follows: Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.
First of all, I understand 100% why President Trump made the decision to temporarily ban people from entering the United States from those countries. Let me emphasize the word TEMPORARILY because he will eventually lift the ban. The whole reason for the ban was to give him time to think of a way to properly screen the people coming into the United States. I'm not sure where people got the idea that he wants to get rid of them and they will never be allowed back in this country because that is so far from his desires.
On the flip side, I feel that he made this way too quickly and didn't think through the country's reaction or the consequences of this ban. In this situation, I think I would have waited until I came up with a proper way to screen ALL immigrants, not just ones coming from the Middle East, and then put up just a restriction. Basically, if you fall under these categories (ie not a felon, not a known terrorist, just trying to live somewhere that isn't in the middle of a war, etc etc) then you would be allowed into the country. I then would put a time limit up for you to become a citizen. If you are choosing to live in this country, then becoming a citizen should be a no brainer. Since it takes about six months to become a citizen, I would give the person up to a year and a half to fulfill it. If at that point, they didn't meet that requirement, then I think it is fair to ask them to leave.
I know this one post is controversial and many people might not agree, but I assure you that I am on the side of my fellow people all over the world. We are all brothers and sisters in my eyes, but there must be rules to keep everyone... EVERYONE safe.
Thank you for reading and have a great day.
